win11-fix

Windows 11 Update June/July 2026 breaks PinUP

if you are NOT running windows 11 then this page is not for you and can disregard.

June 2026: Not everyone has this error, so only need to do this if you are having the errors on startup.

Windows 11 sent an update KB5089573 that completely blocks and breaks PinUP (any version v1.5/v2.0) from starting up.

Other July Updates may include different security patches that may affect the PinUP Player ActiveX/COM from starting with the “classid” error;

When starting POPPER you will get a message “Server Execution Failed, ClassID” like this:

Or if you are just using PinUP Player, you will get an error running PuP-Packs in VPX like “

Current Fix is a simple registry entry that only affects PinUP Player ActiveX/COM settings.

OK. I believe I've got the fix/workaround for the latest win11 update KB5089573 problem.
The issue seems to be how win11 can block some activex/com registrations with 32/64bit surrogates now.
Thanks to @vpfiends for letting me hack-away remotely on his vpin over 3 days to debug/figure the issue out.
Note: you should only run the bat file registry fix if you have the error, not everyone has the issue so no need fix what isn't broke in win11.
DO NOT run this for win10 or older windows as it hasn't been tested and not needed in windows 10.

unblock/unzip to a temp folder and run-as-admin (restart PC afterwards)

Far too many people that say this isn't working FORGET TO RUN THE BATCH FILE AS ADMINISTRATOR. The batch file cant fix registry when not run correctly. UNBLOCK FILE AND RIGHT-CLICK ON BATCH FILE.

Note: the registry entries fix doesn't affect your Windows settings or other vpin/apps, it only touches/updates the PinUP Player COM/ActiveX settings in registry so worst case scenario is your PinUP Player may still not startup after the registry changes.
